The MAXAM X-COPTER Drone, “Best Idea for the Use of Drones in Civil Engineering” Award Winner

•For 10 years, MAXAM has integrated the use of drones in solutions offered to its clients.

•Clipboard” The X-COPTER drone is especially designed to increase safety, quality and efficiency in in open pit mining and quarrying.

    • The General Manager of EXPACE, a MAXAM Group systems company responsible for the design and manufacture of the drone, will receive the award from the Deputy Minister of Economy and Competitiveness of the Autonomous Region of Madrid.

MAXAM, a global technology company specialising in energetic materials, will receive an award today for the best idea for the use of drones in civil engineering. The winning idea is its X-COPTER: an aerial reconnaissance drone for use in open pit mines and quarries that provides an increase in the efficiency, quality and safety of operations. The award will be presented this afternoon by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Competitiveness of the Autonomous Region of Madrid, Javier Ruiz Santiago, as part of the CivilDRON ’18 Conference.

In fact, the use of drones is part of the comprehensive solutions that MAXAM has been offering its clients since 2008.

“The development of the X-COPTER is the result of synergistic gains between in-depth knowledge of mining activity and the application of the latest technological advancements in the field of robotics, aeronautics and electronics”, explains Diego Fernandez, General Manager of EXPACE, a MAXAM Group systems company that focuses its activity in the areas of electronics and ICTs, and collaborates with the group's different business units for the development of drones and innovative technologies applied to the defence, security, aerospace and industrial sectors.

X-COPTER, greater safety, quality and efficiency in mining operations

The X-COPTER is a helicopter-drone with four propellers (quadcopter) for the aerial reconnaissance of open pit mining and quarrying activity areas. Equipped with cameras and gas sensors, it provides the ability to check the safety of the land before and after blasting, as well as performing a structural analysis to measure aspects such as land fragmentation levels and volume of material generated.

To increase the efficiency, quality and safety of mining operations, the drone has a series of key functionalities such as: gas sensors (CO and NOx), real-time HD video and photography, greater flight autonomy and the ability to operate in wind and light rain conditions.
