MAXAM reinforces its commitment to the Australian market with the opening of two manufacturing sites

  • Until next 15 January, students of the Rovira i Virgili university can choose to take part in the MAXAM Scholarship Program.
  • MAXAM’s principal business in Tarragona, through NITRICOMAX, is the production of nitric acid, a fundamental raw material for the development and economic progress of society.

MAXAM, a global technology company present in Tarragona through NITRICOMAX, and the Rovira i Virgili University, today announced a collaboration agreement through which both organisations commit to promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge. A main part of the agreement, is that the Rovira i Virgili university (URV) will be included in the MAXAM Scholarship Program, organised by the company's Technology Management and aimed at students of the Master’s in Chemical Engineering.

The students of the Escola Tècnica d’Enginyeria Química of the URV who so wish, will therefore be able to take part in the program, whose main objective is to facilitate their entry into the professional world. During 6 months, the students will simultaneously take part in the internship and prepare their Master’s Thesis, supervised by a company professional. The 9th Edition of the Program will be open for registration until 15 January 2019.

“The process engineers will work in collaboration with MAXAM professionals on projects with wide practical implementation in terms of quality, environment and safety. In previous editions of the program, 80% of the students have subsequently joined our company; and the first professional challenge of many of them was to implement their Master’s Thesis. In fact, several members of the NITRICOMAX staff are former students of the program ", explains César Valero, Director of the MAXAM plant in Tarragona.

ETSEQ Master’s in Chemical Engineering

The Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Química (ETSEQ) aims to provide comprehensive training to students, which includes not only technical competence, but also professional capacity, which is materialised through specific training in leadership, teamwork, initiative and innovation. The Master’s in Chemical Engineering, taught entirely in English, includes a six-month stay in the industry in order to carry out the Master’s Thesis based on a real and specific industrial project.

The MAXAM initiative fits perfectly into the design of this course, and therefore, the students of the Master’s in Chemical engineering are able to benefit from this opportunity offered through its Scholarship Program. In this way, MAXAM becomes a part of the group of companies of the Work Experience program of the ETSEQ in which the 30 students of the master’s carry out this type of professional stay in chemical industries, not only in Tarragona’s major petrochemical industrial estate, but also in other European and world industries. ETSEQ Master’s in Chemical Engineering is the perfect platform to obtain front-line international training that provides access to the professional world and, thus contribute, to the country’s economic growth.

MAXAM Scholarship Program

The MAXAM Scholarship Program has been a pioneering one in Spain, for its approach and methodology, promoting business values such as effort, commitment, safety, teamwork, collaboration and assistance among professionals.

The program reflects the company’s commitment to helping young graduates enter the professional world. For this purpose, it supports comprehensive training, which combines technical training with education in values. Thus, it covers three main lines: a human component, focused on educating in professional values such as teamwork and ethical decision-making; a technical component, which revolves around the students’ Master’s Thesis; and an experience component, which broadens their technical knowledge. Students experience first hand the company’s day-to-day activities, both at the central offices and in the production facilities, having the chance to visit several of the more than 80 plants owned by the company worldwide.

NITRICOMAX

Purchased by MAXAM in 2013, the NITRICOMAX plant has been operational in Tarragona for more than 40 years. Its principal business is the production of nitric acid, a fundamental raw material for the development and economic progress of society.

Apart from its use in energy materials, nitric acid is also used, for instance, in the food and electronics industries, in the manufacture of medicines, in the production of dyes, additives, fertilizers and plant food, and in artistic engraving.

The NITRICOMAX plant manufactures nitric acid under the highest parameters of quality, safety and environmental protection. Over the last 5 years, the company has made 6m euros worth of investment in improving its facilities.
