MAXAM, a new member of AMINER

MAXAM is now part of AMINER (Association of Research, Mining, Mining-Metallurgic Transformation, Auxiliary and Services Companies), a platform for the development of metal mining in Andalusia. Its aim is to promote the mining-metallurgical sector, which, given its characteristics and future outlook, will play a key strategic role in the social and economic development of the region.

This association represents 90% of metal mining companies in Andalusia. According to figures from AMINER, mining in Andalusia generates 2,800 direct jobs and over 10,000 indirect jobs. Investment up to today amounts to 1.9 billion euros, or 2.8 billion euros if we take into account investment which is already planned and projects which are currently in the administration process. In 2014, companies in this mining sector turned over 700 million euros, or one billion euros if we consider projects currently underway, which would provide direct employment for up to 5000 people.

“The boom metal mining is currently experiencing in Andalusia is a great opportunity for social and economic progress in this region. Being a member of AMINER allows us to be part of this experience and help ensure it becomes a reality by contributing all our knowledge and expertise. MAXAM has long been present in Andalusia, where it has offered its mining solutions for more than 100 years”, says Antonio Milagre, General Manager of MAXAM Terra Solutions in Spain.

MAXAM, which will form part of AMINER's Board of Directors, is the leading blasting solutions company for the mining, quarrying and construction sectors in Spain and Europe, the second biggest in terms of global implementation, and the third most important in terms of global turnover. With nearly 150 years of history, having been founded by Alfred Nobel in Galdacano (Vizcaya) in 1872, it has its headquarters based in Madrid, and counts with a total of 1200 employees and several production centres in Spain (El Garrobo in Seville, Galdácano in Vizcaya, and Paramo de Masa, Burgos, among others).
