“Your talent is a competitive advantage for MAXAM”

MAXAM offered more than 50 students from the ETSIME an overview of the different employment opportunities available for new graduates. These opportunities are open to young engineers who, in addition to their technical knowledge, have the necessary teamwork skills, flexibility and an ability to adapt to changes, in addition to availability to travel and a willingness to work on international projects.

José Ángel Sanchidrián, Professor of the ETSIME, introduced the conference with a short presentation in which he thanked the students for coming and stressed that “MAXAM is an excellent company to start a professional career and develop within a global business which is committed to continuous growth”.

“The Company is looking for graduate engineers with a good understanding of their subject, and with the necessary potential and competencies to develop a successful career in MAXAM”. They also detailed the different areas of engineering the company demands (mining, industry, chemicals, etc.), and encouraged the attendees to visit the “MAXAM Careers” section at maxam.net and apply for the jobs on offer, saying “your talent is a competitive advantage for MAXAM." - MAXAM's Human Resources Team

Students were informed of employment opportunities currently available thanks to the globalisation of the Company and to it being awarded large international contracts. Finally, the basics of the YESS programme were detailed. This programme focuses on “training new engineering graduates in the field, helping them to gain work experience in international projects, carrying out both technical field tasks and also management and sales; in short, multidisciplinary training to develop and discover each engineer's niche talent."

Audra Walsh (MATSA) opened the session by pointing out that “mining companies offer quality employment and cover the level of demand in Spain, where 45 million Spaniards require around 1 billion tons of mineral to satisfy their needs”. Carlos Alemán (ICL Iberia) highlighted the “key role of raw materials in society”, and stressed that the fundamental requirement of all mining activity was that it must be sustainable, stating that “sustainable mining is the present and future of our industry."

The company's presentation also involved the collaboration of two engineers, both with a solid professional background, who started their careers at MAXAM. They both explained their beginnings in the YESS programme and their experience later on in the company. "Thanks to this programme, I had the opportunity to work on different projects in places such as Papua New Guinea, Australia, UK and Cameroon. Although each project involved different tasks, they were all carried out in multicultural teams within a context of innovation," said one of them.
